FAQ

For those who love to know

Crew can do a lot of incredible things, and you might have a lot of questions. The main thing to know is it works — people are using Crew to painlessly track each expense, control their money, and hit their goals.1

For those still hunting for devils in the details, we’re happy to be totally transparent.

Interest & fees

Crew earns money from deposits with our sponsor bank, Bangor Savings Bank, Member FDIC, and from the normal interchange fees merchants pay any time you pay with a debit or credit card.

We can pass more interest on to our customers because we are a digital-only product with a lean team.*

*The team is lean. Individual team members may not be lean, but are still beautiful.

Crew does not charge ATM fees and will even reimburse the fees charged by ATM operators on the first 20 ATM withdrawals your family makes each year.

There is no subscription fee. Relax. Go worry about other things.

Budgeting with Crew

Crew is powerful enough to actually change the way you spend, but low-maintenance enough to be sustainable.

Because it’s actually a part of your account, Crew can decline unwanted transactions and move money toward goals.

Because it’s automated, you don’t have to reconcile with receipts or log in every time you want to transfer money.

The account follows your budget for you.

Yeah, Crew can do that. Autopilot can scan your past transactions looking for bills or you can enter bills manually.

Once Crew knows your due dates and bill amounts, it automatically sets aside the money you’ll need and leaves the rest of your funds to be spent without worrying.

Yep. You can create pockets, fund pockets manually or automatically, and spend directly from those pockets. You can also hide pockets you don’t want to use day-to-day.

Crew makes it easy to give every dollar a job and do envelope budgeting without having to carry around a filing cabinet every time you leave the house.

Not only will it work, but it will make it easier. You can make rules based on dollar amounts or percentages and changes in one area will automatically adjust in others, so the math will always come out right.

For example, if you decide to put $25 more aside for your emergency fund, the app can automatically keep $25 less in your checking account, or when you reach your vacation funds goal, Crew can forward new contributions to your retirement pocket.

Joining Crew

To apply for Crew you will need to provide your legal name, birthdate, physical address, and tax ID (usually a social security number).

It takes most customers less than 5 minutes.

Nope.

We wouldn’t complain if you made Crew your only account, but it isn’t necessary. Crew can be linked with most external bank accounts to help you move funds whenever you need.

Yes! The app is free to download. From there you can link to an existing bank account to play around with features or use the demo mode in the app menu.

Crew is currently only available to U.S. residents.

It’s okay if you live out of the country temporarily as long as you remain a U.S. resident and keep a physical address within the U.S.

Crew cards3

Create a virtual card to use online, with Apple Wallet, with Google Wallet, or with Samsung Wallet as soon as your account is approved.

If you love the feel of plastic, request a physical card through the Crew app. It will usually arrive in 7-10 days.

Virtual cards often give you more visibility and control. They can be instantly created or erased and will work with Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or tap-to-pay devices.

You can create dozens of virtual cards for different needs — like one just for groceries or another set to decline unwanted auto-renewals.

Of course! It will work with any ATM in the Mastercard, Maestro, or Cirrus networks. Crew will reimburse fees on up to 20 ATM withdrawals per year. See the ATM location nearest you.

Yes, your Crew card will work anywhere that Mastercard is accepted. See our deposit agreement for more information about currency exchange rates.
